LET’S ALL BE CURED

Of all the fatal diseases which are prevalent in our world today, Cancer is the most frightening to all of us.  It is also the most devastating to family and friends.

There are very few in our Order who have not been touched by this disease in some way or another.  Whether we are a survivor or have lost a family member or a friend, it has touched nearly all of us at one time or in some way.  Cancer is now the number one cause of death for adults ages 45 through 74, and the second leading cause of death for children five to 14. 

I believe there is a cure for many kinds of Cancer and along with prevention and early detection, a cure is what we need to strive for.  Recently, at Minnesota’s Grand Chapter Session, one of their speakers was a Cancer survivor who, when diagnosed, was told by two different doctors to go home and put his affairs in order.  He participated in a research program at the University of Minnesota, Masonic Cancer Center, and today he is cancer-free and able to share his story.  Loma Linda University Hospital in Riverside, California, through donations towards research, has achieved a 97% cure rate for Prostate Cancer.  Both, truly amazing accomplishments.

This year, one of our special projects will be our Cancer Research Project known as “LET’S A B C”.  Chairmen for this project will be Martha and Jack Holder, Past Matron and Past Patron of Fort Millerton Chapter No. 557, Fresno.  Jack was diagnosed with cancer, went through months of treatments, and tells his story in a letter to our Sisters and Brothers.  Please share this letter with all of your members!
