COMMITTED TO CHARITY:
Supporting Our "STAR" Charities
The great charitable work of our Order can be supported in many ways.
The California Eastern Star Foundation and the Endowment Fund of the
Grand Chapter of California, Order of the Eastern Star are both "qualified
organizations" under section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code and you may be
entitled to a charitable deduction if you itemize your deductions. (Tax deductibility
should be determined in consultation with your own accounting or legal advisors.)
While many of our charities are limited to members, our scholarships
are open to all students and our cancer fund benefits are available to members and their
families. All of these programs are fully supported by the Grand Chapter of California,
Order of the Eastern Star.
Contributions to the California Eastern Star Foundation for the benefit
of the J. Clifford Lee Memorial Cancer Fund, Marguerite Rennie Memorial Fund, Memorial
Cancer Dressing Stations Fund, Scholarship Fund, Gerald P. Cashion Memorial Fund,
Benevolent Fund or Disaster Fund are also normally made through the Secretary of your
local Eastern Star Chapter.
For purposes of tax compliance, single contributions in excess of $250
should be made by check payable to the "California Eastern Star Foundation". You
should also show on the face of your check the name of the fund you wish your donation to
benefit.
For further information about obtaining benefits from any of our
Eastern Star Charities or for additional information about tax deductible contributions to
support the important work of these charities contact the California Eastern Star
Foundation or the Secretary of your local Eastern Star Chapter.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING
Other opportunities for donation include gifts through your will or
living trust, beneficiary designations of life insurance, retirement, or IRAs
benefits, charitable and remainder trust or the donation of appreciated assets such as
stock. Specific details of these, and other opportunities to support our "Star"
charities are available by contacting the California Eastern Star Foundation.

EMERGENCY RELIEF
Benevolent Fund
This Fund was established to aid those who have been members for five
years or more, who become economically distressed and need financial assistance. The
maximum amount allowed for extreme emergencies is $6,500.00; however, if the member has
also exhausted the J. Clifford Lee Cancer Fund, he/she may receive up to $10,000. The
Relief Committee (consisting of the Worthy Matron, Worthy Patron, Associate Matron, and
Associate Patron) of each Chapter
and the Area Chairman are responsible for the investigation.
Disaster Fund
Provides aid to members for relief from earthquake, flood or other
catastrophic disaster.
