Eastern Star Members Support Their Communities

Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society is at work in communities all across the country providing programs aimed at reducing the risk of cancer, detecting cancer as early as possible, ensuring proper treatment. and empowering people facing cancer to cope and maintain the highest possible quality of life.

The 2006-2007 Worthy Grand Matron has selected Relay for Life as California's "Special Project for 2007". Relay for life is a community gathering, where everyone can participate in the fight against cancer. By participating in the Relay for Life, members will do their part in raising funds for Cancer research and or supporting those who are participating by volunteering of the Relay

In conjunction with active participation in Relay for Life events, state officers and others will have a special pin offered for sale to our members, family and friends. This pin will represent our commitment to the fight against cancer, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society to further their efforts in finding a cure for this dreaded disease.

Members needing more information on this program can contact Leslie Routt in Tracy.

Stick Your Neck Out for Service

One California Eastern Star's watch words for 2007 is "Service" - Service to our Communities. This years Worthy Grand Matron has stressed the importance of participation in the many community service projects which are ongoing in every community across the state. We are part of the many communities across our state and it is important that we participate with others to help improve our communities.

She recently told the incoming officers for 2007: "There are so many ways we can serve - feeding the homeless, stocking shelves at a Food Bank, cleaning up at a local park, volunteering or entering an Alzheimer's or Breast Cancer Walk or Run, volunteering at a hospital, adopting a giraffe at a local zoo or donating charity baskets to a Domestic Violence Shelter. The possibilities are endless."

Make a difference in your community by performing at least 50 hours of community service in 2007. Upon reaching this goal, you will be presented with your Community Service Pin in recognition of your dedication and commitment.
